Abstract
The case is presented of nodular lymphoid hyperplasia of the colon occurring in a 23-year-old man who suffered from colitis, anemia and elevated serum IgM. Radiologic studies of the upper gastrointestinal and small intestinal tract were negative. The 2-4 mm great non-umbilicated polyps were exclusively located in the ascending and transverse colon. A transverse colectomy was performed. Microscopic lesions consisted of accumulations of nodular benign lymphoid follicles containing granular centers. No malignant transformation was observed. A differential diagnosis was established in relation to other intestinal polyposis, with or without familiar character. Colon presentation of this disease is uncommon in adults. It is not malignant and is not known to be pre-malignant. Treatment is usually unnecessary and spontaneous dissappearance has been documented several times. (Llombart - Valencia)
