Abstract

Malignant pleural effusions are a common clinical problem. The estimated annual incidence of malignant pleural effusions in the United States is greater than 150,000 cases per year, with lung cancer accounting for nearly half. Breast cancer, lymphoma, and ovarian cancer round out the top four leading causes of malignant pleural effusions.
