Abstract

Temperate bacteriophages φcm2, φcm19, φcm103 were isolated following mitomycin C induction from the strains Lactococcus lactis subsp, lactis CM2 and CM19, and L. lactis subsp, cremoris CM103, respectively. Temperate bacteriophages were characterized by electron microscopy, restriction pattern, host range and growth parameters. All bacteriophages were large isometric-headed with base plate; they had genome sizes of 73.3 kb for φcm2 and φcm103 and 58.4 kb for φcm19. Temperate bacteriophages showed narrow host range. Bacteriophage-host interactions were also investigated by propagation of these bacteriophages on their common indicator strain L. lactis subsp, lactis CM39.
