Chief Medical Officer

As Chief Medical Officer of Fox Chase Cancer Center, Dr. Helstrom provides leadership, direction, and planning for the clinical activities of the hospital. He supervises quality, process, and performance improvement programs as well as the Tumor Registry and clinical analytics. In addition, he has responsibility for the Medical Staff Office.

Dr. Helstrom joined Fox Chase’s faculty in 2007 from the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, where he was an attending anesthesiologist in the vascular, thoracic, and neurosurgical services. He was appointed chief medicine officer in 2014.

Dr. Helstrom completed his residency in the department of anesthesiology and critical care at Massachusetts General Hospital. He received his medical degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Denver as well as an MBA from Washington University in St. Louis, MO.

Dr. Helstrom is certified as a diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology. Among his professional activities, he is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the Society for Critical Care Medicine.
